Upgrade Energy and Chemical Wastewater Solutions: Poten Enviro holds technological innovation seminar

Energy and chemical industry is a pillar industry of China’s national economy. Since 2013, the once very hot new type coal chemical industry has experienced a period of inactivity for three years. This February, the National Energy Administration released the “13th Five-year Plan for the Demonstration of Coal Deep Processing Industry”, which was interpreted as a new signal for the recovery by the coal chemical industry 

April 8, the Conference on Water System Technology and Market Innovation of Energy and Chemical Industry was held in Beijing. Co-sponsored by China Chemical Suppliers Committee of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) and Poten Enviro Group Co., Ltd. (603603.SH), nearly 100 representatives from the environmental protection authority, CPCIF, chemical parks and enterprises attended this meeting, communicating and discussing  on technological innovation, market direction and policy trends.

During the Conference, Li Tie, Secretary-general of CPCIF China Chemical Suppliers Committee, noted that the "13th Five-year Plan" period represented an important milestone for the development of petrochemical industry, and the year of 2017 would be a year of difficult but steady and improving progress of this industry.

With the emphasis on environmental governance, the improvement of environmental standards and fully and strictly supervision and management by the government, the responsibility of the companies is becoming more and more obvious. Wastewater treatment for the energy and chemical industry is not only the requisite to get the approval but the key to achieve sustainable development.

The energy and chemical industry needs the water treatment system which features higher technique difficulty,  large-scale project and extremely high threshold of market access. To undertake the water treatment works or services under an energy and chemical project involving a total investment of several billions or even tens of billions yuan, an enterprise must demonstrate impressive compressive strength in terms of technical expertise, capital, personnel, and qualifications, as well as rich accumulation of project experience.

As one of the conference’s sponsors, Poten Enviro has devoted itself into the field of water environment governance for more than 20 years. Very experienced in wastewater treatment in energy and chemical industry, it has successfully delivered hundreds of successful cases, thus building solid technical capabilities and securing a leading market position. During the period from 2008 to 2013, the golden age for the coal chemical industry, there were 16 new-type coal chemical projects each with an investment of over RMB10 billion in China, among which seven were participated in by Poten Enviro, accounting for 43.75% of the total, the highest level across all Chinese companies.

At the Conference, Miao Dongyuan, Senior Vice President of Poten Enviro, introduced the Group’s typical cases in water treatment projects of the energy and chemical industry. He noted that by virtue of constant innovations in technology and business mode, Poten Enviro, has always been at the vanguard of the wastewater treatment field, especially that relating to the energy and chemical industry, and become one of a few domestic enterprises capable of providing integrated water environment services for complex energy and chemical water projects.

Last May, the desulfurization wastewater near zero emissions project undertaken by Poten Enviro for Shandong Jingbo Power Plant has successfully achieved crystallization of salt, which was not only the first engineering application of membrane concentration process in dealing with desulfurization wastewater, but also a major breakthrough in desulfurization wastewater zero emissions of power plants, marking a milestone in energy-saving and emission reduction for the power plant.

At the meeting, Wang Yuhui, Deputy General Manager of POTEN Engineering under Poten Enviro, gave details about the Group’s core technologies and successful application cases in the energy and chemical field. Such technologies included MBR technology, jointly developed MCR efficient hardness and turbidity removal device, self-developed Hi-SOT gradient composite ozone catalytic oxidation technology, and wastewater "zero emissions" resource package. Combined with previous project experience in wide application of nanofiltration, membrane concentration and evaporation crystallization technologies, through the verification by a pilot test, all wastewater and crystallized salt can be reused at an advanced level in the industry. The independently developed pollution-resistant thermally-induced phase PVDF ultrafiltration has been widely applied in different industrial sectors.

During the "12th Five-year Plan" period, under the background of rapid rise in oil demand and high oil prices, China's modern coal chemical industry with oil alternative products as the main focus has registered a rapid development, but some problems exposed therefrom cannot be ignored. China's coal chemical industry is mainly distributed in the western region, where the ecological environment is fragile with increasingly prominent contradictions between industrial development and protection of local ecological environment.

In addition, it is difficult to treat the wastewater produced by the coal chemical industry, especially the high-concentration refractory organic wastewater with refractory tar, phenol and polyphenols, with which the general biochemical process won’t work. As a result, many problems have been exposed. In addition, the treatment of high-concentration salt wastewater is also a difficult process that will incur high costs.

The Yulin-based 1 million m3/a Demonstration Project for Indirect Coal Liquefaction of Shaanxi Future Energy Chemical Corp. Affiliated to Yankuang Group is one of the key projects of the national "12th Five-Year Plan" and the first of its kind that reaches the million level in China.

In undertaking the project, Poten Enviro took the lead in breaking the bottleneck of near-zero high-salt wastewater and provided the systematic solution of "comprehensive utilization of water resources, sewage deep treatment and zero emissions" with a series of patented technologies and proprietary technologies. The project has been recognized by many parties, and has won the "2016 National Quality Project Award of Chemical Industry" granted by China National Association of Chemical Construction Enterprises, setting a benchmark for the industry.

Innovation | Technology upgrading provides an inexhaustible driving force for development

Miao Dongyuan believes that the key to Poten Enviro’s successful breakthroughs of key technical difficulties lying in its focus on technology and collaborative R&D efforts.

In 2014, Poten Enviro introduced the world's leading aquaporin inside membranes technology from Denmark, which is revolutionary in the field of water treatment membrane application. The Group is the first company in the world to carry out product and industrialized research on this technology.

The technology features high water permeability (up by 30% -40% in the case of unchanged desalination rate), strong intercepting capability (almost 100% interception of sugar, glycerinum, carbamide, salt and other substances), and strong anti-pollution capability (good tolerance of highly polluted and high TDS water sources), thus projecting a broad market space in the field of energy and chemical wastewater treatment.

At present, Aquapoten Company Limited is capable of providing in batches the full-sequence aquaporin home reverse osmosis membrane components.

According to Zou Hao, Deputy General Manager of Aquapoten Company Limited, following the first domestic aquaporin reverse osmosis membrane component produced by Aquapoten in 2016, the first domestic forward membrane component was developed in Aquapoten this February, as well. In addition, the industrialized aquaporin reverse osmosis membrane components and forward permeable membrane components are also under laboratory validation before they are commercialized.

In 2016, a work station of academicians and experts was jointly established by Poten Enviro and Hou Li'an, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and well-known environmental engineering expert. Based on the work station, Poten Enviro has set up the bases and alliances for coordinated innovations in environmental protection, which brought together a wide range of resources inside and outside the industry, helped many companies to carry out innovative cooperation, and formed a series of multi-dimensional approaches towards collaboration.

Currently, Poten Enviro has established long-term "strategic cooperation" with institutions and firms in Denmark, Singapore, the United States, Germany, Israel and other countries, initiated close partnerships through projects with Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Nankai University, Tianjin University, Beijing Normal University and other colleges and universities and scientific research institutes, and teamed up technically with the technical arms of Shenhua Group, CNOOC Group, Yankuang Group and other key customers.
